Staff Life
Integrity, Quality, Hard Work, Service, Economic Reward and Collegiality - these core values have guided our firm since it was established more than 100 years ago. Our attorneys and staff strive to live by these values and reflect them in their day-to-day interactions with both clients and colleagues. Our goal is to be not just a good place to work, but one of the very best places to work.
Compensation and Evaluation
At Hunton & Williams we are committed to providing a competitive compensation package that recognizes individual and team accomplishments. Our compensation packages are reviewed annually to ensure we maintain a highly competitive position within the marketplace. Each year, staff members may be eligible for a merit-based pay increase as well as a merit-based bonus.
Our annual evaluation process provides employees with an opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments and to identify ways to support their continued professional growth. All staff members are reviewed not only by their supervisors, but also by others who have knowledge of their skills and abilities. This comprehensive process allows for a more well-rounded review that better reflects each employee's contributions to the firm.
Employee Support
One of the most important tools we provide new employees is our orientation program. The firm offers classroom and small group sessions that provide general information about the firm, as well as more detailed information relevant to specific areas of employment. Following the orientation, all new staff receive a great deal of on-the-job training from their colleagues and supervisors and are encouraged to feel free to ask questions and seek additional information whenever it is needed.
We also provide a number of continuing support services to our employees to help make their jobs easier and more productive. Our libraries have research assistants on staff, our Help Desk provides 24-hour access to computer technicians, and our document processing department provides almost round-the clock assistance. In addition, our communications department offers a full range of services including production of both print and electronic materials to support all areas of the firm.
Professional Development
Providing continuing education opportunities is another way we support our employees. The firm has a full-time Staff Professional Development Manager, who is solely focused on providing opportunities for employees to develop their talents. Our staff members have access to Pathways, an online resource that offers both instructor-led and eLearning training. A professional development library also is available that includes courses ranging from Effective Business Writing to Financial Planning for Women that can be viewed on an employee’s desktop, laptop or at home. And, regularly scheduled classes are available on various computer software programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
