Law Students

Summer Program

The Hunton & Williams 2011 Summer Program will be an intimate and focused eight-week immersion experience.  The program will be customized for the selected participants based on their career goals and interests.  We seek 2nd-year law students (joint degree students are welcome to apply) who have an outstanding record of academic achievement, highly-effective written and oral communication skills, strong analytical abilities, proven leadership skills and the ability to contribute to the diversity of thought and talent within our firm. Though the program will be limited in size, we are accepting applications in many of our US offices.

The 2011 Summer Program will have a strong focus on training and development through experiential learning. The goals and aspirations of the summer associates will drive their specific experiences and work assignments, as well as the mentoring and coaching they receive throughout the summer.  Anticipated program features will include:
  • Leadership skills training;
  • Individualized career mentoring and coaching;
  • Business development and client service training;
  • Opportunities to spend significant, quality time with various firm and industry leaders;
  • Practical experiences (such as negotiations, trials, depositions, hearings);
  • The opportunity to spend one week of the program in an additional US office of choice;
  • Enhanced client interaction opportunities;
  • Intensive individualized writing coaching and feedback;
  • Pro bono opportunities in areas of interest;
  • Judicial clerkship counseling and assistance;
  • MBA or joint degree counseling and assistance; and
  • Work projects and experience in the practice areas of interest.

The Hunton & Williams Summer Program is designed to provide hands-on learning and real legal experiences. Participants will get to know the firm while gaining practical knowledge and advancing their overall career objectives.

"My summer at Hunton solidified my interest in working with the firm. The summer program's relatively small number, in comparison to firms of similar stature, allows for individualized and meaningful interaction, work and experience."
